what an enjoyable week (with a few unenjoyable moments)
I was brought to toronto to check out the law school here, just to get a better feel for the school, the faculty and the other acceptees. It seemed amazing, and although the other admits seemed a tad awkward at times, the upper year students were amazing, so there is hope for law school kids.
The facilities are interesting, ranging from lectures around a dining room table to bunker style bathrooms. But, all of the badness of the facilities is mediated by the fact that Trinity College (woe is me!) is nearby and has a working fireplace around which you can study. As some of you may know, studying around a fireplace in a castle type building is actually all I wanted out of my university education.
Spent most of my time in toronto getting drunk, which was nice. I wandered down to Waterloo to visit some old friends on friday, went to a back to the future party, and they spent saturday cross country skiing. It was so gorgeous and surprisingly fun. If all goes well, I may be going again on Sunday, skiing through Manning Park.
Most of my friends are very anti-law school (with the exception of jon and colin, who are in law school) and none more so than some of the folk in Toronto. So, I was taken to the hospital to do a little shadowing with one of my doctor friends. It was amazing. Exciting, intellectual, collegial, and with research opportunities. I think I know what I want to do, but it is occasionally so tempting to follow other interesting paths. that said, medical school may be impossible due to a complete lack of MCAT testing sites. damn.
anyway, flying back to vancouver today, which should be its own slice of awesome.

congrats on all the recent accolades from school/friends etc...
will you be in van around mid-april?
Fine. If you want to spend your life merely improving people's quality of life and (occassionally) saving a life, be my guest. But what good are those lives, really, if they don't have a lawyer ready and willing to sue the doctor that bothced their eyelift? Huh? I mean, go ahead. It's clearly not important to give succor to the oppressed and to arm the weak with the sword of law and the shield of justice.
Any word from Parliament?
jon: noted. but what about succor to those oppressed by disease? don't they deserve relief.
walking down the street yesterday, I realised that if I won the lottery I would go to law school. But if I won the lottery I would be a different person, so I am not fully decided on whether that realisation should inform my decision.
ian: cheers and yes. you should post more.
also, parliament decision in about 2 weeks. I still don't know french.
Look, I've posted, so you can cut me some slack, okay?
Congratulations and all. I think it's a huge achievement just to be nominated, so be proud of yourself! You're awesomo-power!
But if you become a lawyer, i'll kick you in the balls every time I see you.
Jon - I have no issues with your lawyer-destiny, because I know that you are a fundamentally good man. You always have been, so you will obviously use your power for good instead of evil.
Matt, on the other hand...Well. I think the strict parameters of medicine would force him to be good, which would be ultimately good for humanity. Law is a little too loose. A little too interpretive.
Medicine or military school. Either one.
i say military school - seems somehow that you'd come out a better person than law school could ever make you. as sam said, a bit too interpretive...
though i'm pretty sure that you still have to be straight to be in the military ...
i could be yer alibi, if you want.
also - the juan de fuca trail is free. free!
